discernment

Christian Discernment - A Practical Definition

What is really involved in Christian discernment? Is it something mystical? An inner sense? Or is it more practical than that?

Hebrews 5:14 notes that discernment is the ability to recognize good and evil: "Solid food is for the mature, who because of practice have their senses trained to discern good and evil." But you might say that recognizing good and evil is the end product of discernment. What about the actual process of discernment: how do we get to the point of recognizing good from evil? How do we gain that ability? What is involved in discernment? If we know the process, we will get the product.

The process begins with establishing a solid definition. The American Heritage Dictionary defines discernment as: "To detect or perceive with the eye or the mind; to perceive the distinctions of [which can be considered "to define"]; to discriminate."

To detect. To define. To discriminate. Three "D's" that define "discernment."

To detect. The first aspect of discernment is detection. Put simply: open your eyes! Be observant. Pay attention. Scripture commands us to "be sober" (I Thess. 5:8), and to be "on the alert" (I Peter 5:8).

Remember what the Bible says about Satan and sin and evil: that people fall prey to "the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the boastful pride of life" (I John 2:16). That "each one is tempted when he is carried away and enticed by his own lust" (James 1:13). That there are people who "hold fast to themselves for an evil purpose; they talk of laying snares secretly; they ... devise injustices ... for the inward thought and the heart of a man are deep" (Psalm 64:5-6).

The implication is that evil is often disguised, camouflaged, or hidden. You have to be watching out for it. Satan doesn't walk around with a sign around his neck that says, "Satan: Watch Out!" In fact, the Bible teaches that he often appears as an "angel of light" (II Cor. 11:14). He is a deceiver - "a liar, and the father of lies" (John 8:44). You have to keep your eyes open, or you will lose the battle before you ever knew there was a fight.

To define. The second aspect of discernment is to define what you see. First, you have to see what's around you. Then, you have to think about what defines it. What are the characteristics of this thing, this thought, this situation? Why do I want this thing, this goal? How is this the same or different from other good or evil things I am familiar with?

To discriminate. First, you detect something. Then, you define it. Finally, you have to decide about it. "I've thought about this thing, this thought, this situation, this decision in my mind. These are its characteristics. Now, what does the Bible say about this? What does my reason tell me about this? What do trustworthy Christians think about this? What is God's Spirit telling me about this?"

This is where you are deciding if something is good or evil. After that, it is up to you to obey God, or to disobey him. Remember, the spiritual discipline of discernment - like all spiritual disciplines - is meant to bring us closer to God. Discernment helps us to recognize good and evil, and therefore, if we choose the good, to live a holy life. In doing so, it strengthens and deepens our relationship to God.

Detecting, defining, and discriminating: three very practical "D's" that define the art of Christian discernment.

same sex

Is the Bible consistent about homosexuality?

by Tim Keller
I find it frustrating when I read or hear columnists, pundits or journalists dismiss Christians as inconsistent because “they pick and choose which of the rules in the Bible to obey.”

What I hear most often is, “Christians ignore lots of Old Testament texts — about not eating raw meat or pork or shellfish, not executing people for breaking the Sabbath, not wearing garments woven with two kinds of material and so on. Then they condemn homosexuality. Aren’t they just picking and choosing what they want to believe from the Bible?”

It is not that I expect everyone to have the capability of understanding that the whole Bible is about Jesus and God’s plan to redeem his people, but I vainly hope that one day someone will access their common sense (or at least talk to an informed theological advisor) before leveling the charge of inconsistency.

First of all, let’s be clear that it’s not only the Old Testament that has proscriptions about homosexuality.

The New Testament has plenty to say about it as well. Even Jesus says, in his discussion of divorce in Matthew 19:3-12, that the original design of God was for one man and one woman to be united as one flesh, and failing that (v. 12), persons should abstain from marriage and from sex.

However, let’s get back to considering the larger issue of inconsistency regarding things mentioned in the OT that are no longer practiced by the New Testament people of God. Most Christians don’t know what to say when confronted about this.

Here’s a short course on the relationship of the Old Testament to the New Testament:
The Old Testament devotes a good amount of space to describing the various sacrifices that were to be offered in the tabernacle (and later temple) to atone for sin so that worshippers could approach a holy God.

As part of that sacrificial system, there was also a complex set of rules for ceremonial purity and cleanness. You could only approach God in worship if you ate certain foods and not others, wore certain forms of dress, refrained from touching a variety of objects, and so on. This vividly conveyed, over and over, that human beings are spiritually unclean and can’t go into God’s presence without purification.

But even in the Old Testament, many writers hinted that the sacrifices and the temple worship regulations pointed forward to something beyond them (cf. 1 Samuel 15:21-22; Psalm 50:12-15; 51:17; Hosea 6:6). When Christ appeared, he declared all foods ‘clean’ (Mark 7:19) and he ignored the Old Testament clean laws in other ways, touching lepers and dead bodies.

But the reason is made clear.

When he died on the cross, the veil in the temple was ripped through, showing that the need for the entire sacrificial system with all its clean laws had been done away with. Jesus is the ultimate sacrifice for sin, and now Jesus makes us “clean.”

The entire book of Hebrews explains that the Old Testament ceremonial laws were not so much abolished as fulfilled by Christ. Whenever we pray ‘in Jesus name,’ we ‘have confidence to enter the Most Holy Place by the blood of Jesus’ (Hebrews 10:19).

It would, therefore, be deeply inconsistent with the teaching of the Bible as a whole if we were to continue to follow the ceremonial laws.

The New Testament gives us further guidance about how to read the Old Testament.

Paul makes it clear in places like Romans 13:8ff that the apostles understood the Old Testament moral law to still be binding on us. In short, the coming of Christ changed how we worship but not how we live.

The moral law is an outline of God’s own character — his integrity, love and faithfulness. And so all the Old Testament says about loving our neighbor, caring for the poor, generosity with our possessions, social relationships, and commitment to our family is still in force. The New Testament continues to forbid killing or committing adultery, and all the sex ethics of the Old Testament are restated throughout the New Testament (Matthew 5:27-30; 1 Corinthians 6:9-20; 1 Timothy 1:8-11).
If the New Testament has reaffirmed a commandment, then it is still in force for us today.

Further, the New Testament explains another change between the Testaments.

Sins continue to be sins — but the penalties change. In the Old Testament, things like adultery or incest were punishable with civil sanctions like execution. This is because at that time God’s people existed in the form of a nation-state and so all sins had civil penalties.

But in the New Testament, the people of God are an assembly of churches all over the world, living under many different governments.

The church is not a civil government, and so sins are dealt with by exhortation and, at worst, exclusion from membership. This is how a case of incest in the Corinthian church is dealt with by Paul (1 Corinthians 5:1ff and 2 Corinthians 2:7-11).

Why this change?

Under Christ, the gospel is not confined to a single nation — it has been released to go into all cultures and peoples.

Once you grant the main premise of the Bible — about the surpassing significance of Christ and his salvation — then all the various parts of the Bible make sense.

Because of Christ, the ceremonial law is repealed.

Because of Christ, the church is no longer a nation-state imposing civil penalties.

It all falls into place. However, if you reject the idea of Christ as Son of God and Savior, then, of course, the Bible is at best a mish-mash containing some inspiration and wisdom, but most of it would have to be rejected as foolish or erroneous.

So where does this leave us? There are only two possibilities.

If Christ is God, then this way of reading the Bible makes sense and is perfectly consistent with its premise. The other possibility is that you reject Christianity’s basic thesis — you don’t believe Jesus was the resurrected Son of God — and then the Bible is no sure guide for you about much of anything.

But the one thing you can’t really say in fairness is that Christians are being inconsistent with their beliefs to accept the moral statements in the Old Testament while not practicing other ones.

One way to respond to the charge of inconsistency may be to ask a counter-question — “Are you asking me to deny the very heart of my Christian beliefs?” If you are asked, “Why do you say that?” you could respond, “If I believe Jesus is the the resurrected Son of God, I can’t follow all the ‘clean laws’ of diet and practice, and I can’t offer animal sacrifices. All that would be to deny the power of Christ’s death on the cross. And so those who really believe in Christ must follow some Old Testament texts and not others.”

In 1989 Dr. Timothy J. Keller, his wife and three young sons moved to New York City to begin Redeemer Presbyterian Church. In 20 years it has grown to meeting for five services at three sites with a weekly attendance of over 5,000. Redeemer is notable not only for winning skeptical New Yorkers to faith, but also for partnering with other churches to do both mercy ministry and church planting. Redeemer City to City is working to help establish hundreds of new multi-ethnic congregations throughout the city and other global cities in the next decades.

Salt and Light Witnessing

Criminalizing Christianity will make it necessary for us to be careful how we witness.
We are commanded to preach and witness to every person. (Matthew 28:19-20 .  Acts 1:8 )

Matthew 5:13-16
13 Ye are the salt of the earth: but if the salt have lost his savour, wherewith shall it be salted? it is thenceforth good for nothing, but to be cast out, and to be trodden under foot of men.
14 Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid.
15 Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it giveth light unto all that are in the house.
16 Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.

“Salt and Light Witnessing”
We are the salt, the silent work of influence; and the light, the visible manifestation of God in people’s lives.

INTRODUCTION:
a) There are two things that we value that seem so insignificant but are part of our survival. We either complain because too much of these two things or we want more of these.
b) One is hardly seen. Yet too little of it you can taste the difference and too much of it can ruin your food.
c) The other is visible it is need during the night or when it is dark. Yet too much of it in the morning well make you say, “Turn it off” yet too little of it can make you feel unsafe.
d) What is it? It is salt and light. One works as it comes into contact with the food and the other one as turned on.
e) Jesus said you are the Salt and the light. Today I want to share with you an ancient formula that can turn this world upside down.

I. A CHRISTIANS INFLUENCE Vs.13
Salt Witnessing

A. SALT
1. Matthew 5:13-16 In the Sermon on the Mount we stated that the Beatitudes are the elements of the Christian life. But this next section deals with the Christians influence. A Christian that is merciful or is meek, or is a peacemaker, or that is pure in heart will have a tremendous influence in the lives of those who have not given their heart to God.
2. In ancient times salt was seen as a necessity of life. Because of its seasoning and preservative qualities was one of the most highly prized minerals. In many societies it was so highly valued that it was used for money. The English word salary is derived from the Latin word Salarium which refers to the payments made to a Roman soldier with salt.
3. Herod’s temple had a chamber of salt for ceremonial use of salt. (
Mishna - Mas. Middoth Chapter 5 v 3)
4. Whenever a city was defeated the custom was to throw salt throughout the city. This means that the city had been separated from its past. Elisha used salt to purify the water of Jericho (2 Kings 2:20)
5. The normal procedures when a child was born was to be rubbed with salt (Eze 16:4)

B. The use of Salt
Salt was gathered in Palestine from along the seashore or inland lakes.
1. SALT MAKES YOU THIRSTY
2. SEASONING: In Bible times and still today salt is used for seasoning our food. Who likes to eat food without salt? Even though salt is so small and yet hardly noticeable it makes a difference when applied to the substance.
a) Salt was used to flavor the offerings and sacrifices (Lev. 2:13, Eze 43:24) “All who would present themselves, “a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God: (Rom 12:1), must receive the saving salt, the righteousness of our Saviour.”
b) In order for our lives to be a living sacrifice for God they must be preserved and seasoned with righteousness of Christ.
3. PRESERVATIVE: But it was also used to preserve food. They did not have the refrigeration systems that we have today.
4. FRIENDSHIP: Salt was seen as a covenant relationship “It is a covenant of salt forever before the Lord with you and your descendants with you.” (Numbers 18:19) So salt also represented a relationship. “It represented hospitality that cemented on friendship” Arab Saying “There is salt between us”

C. You are the Salt of the Earth
1. What did Jesus mean by this statement? It is the silent witness of the Christian believer. It is the influence that you have over other people’s lives to season, and preserve for eternal life. Christ is saying let your influence season people’s life for the kingdom. Salt changes things; a little salt can flavor a big pot of beans. It only takes on salt to flavor a whole community a whole neighborhood a whole workplace.
2. The whole issue of salt is the seasoning, the influence you might say. Like someone said, “The salt is no good if it never leaves the salt shaker, it is only an decoration to the kitchen table.
3. We deny the salt function when we fail to mingle with people that are lost; we deny the function of the salt when we fail to be kind, merciful, peacemaker. To deny the salt function is to deny the principles of the kingdom of God. We are not to draw away from society, we are not of the world but we live in the world. And if we, as Salt, don’t rub against those who have no flavor, those who are perishing, who will?
4. Jesus said, “You are the salt.” It is emphatic He didn’t say you are the earth. He didn’t say you might, you ought to be; No, “you are the salt.” We are either the salt or the world.
G.C. Campbell Morgan said nicely when he wrote, “Jesus, looking out over the multitudes of His day, saw the corruption, the disintegration of life at every point, its breakup, its spoliation; and because of His love of the multitudes, He knew the thing that they needed most was the salt in order that the corruption should be arrested.”
5. Salt witnessing is about showing true friendship. Showing the friendship of Jesus. Love is the main ingredient in true friendship. “When love fills the heart, it will flow out to others…”This love is as broad as the universe, and is in harmony with that of the angel workers. Cherished in the heart, it sweetens the entire life and sheds its blessing upon all around. It is this, and this only, that can make us the salt of the earth”
6. Remember Lot’s wife she became a pillar of salt because she wanted to be part of the world. We are not pillars of salt we are the “Salt of the earth.”

II. A CHRISTIAN’S TESTIMONY
A. Light
1. Light is described as a form of energy it is always moving. “When light energy ceases to move, because it has been absorbed by matter, it is no longer light” Light has been a symbol of divine presence. Jesus said that He was the light of the world.
2. Who is the true source of light? “Then Jesus spoke to them again saying I am the light of the world. He who follows me shall not walk in darkness, but have the light of life.” (John 8:12) “The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? The Lord is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?” (Psalm 27:1)
3. People are living in fear because of what is happening. This is the opportunity to shine the light so people will not be afraid. “But if we walk in the light as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanses us from all sin.” (1 John 1:7) So we are called to have friendships and to witness to our friends.
4. We know Jesus is the true light. We are only reflectors of the light. The question is- what does it mean that Jesus is the light? “There was a man sent from God, whose name was John. This man came for a witness, to bear witness of the Light, that all through him might believe. He was not that Light, but was sent to bear witness of that Light. That was the true Light, which gives light to every man coming into the world.” (John 1:6-9).  “In Him was life, and the life was the light of men.” (John 1:4)
5. See here it is very evident that we are just reflectors and of Jesus’ Light. Not only that, but to be a light of Jesus is to live His life here on earth. In other words our testimony.

B. Functions of Light

1. Expose darkness: Darkness is expelled as soon as you hit the lights. People are not aware of the darkness they live in if they don’t see the light. “The people who were sitting in darkness saw a great light.” (Matthew 4:16) The question is - does my life help people see more clearly?
2. Light serves a guide: Airport runways help planes see their runway by the lights. When we try to drive in the dark or land in the dark without lights it is dangerous. We are guides to people who are in darkness.
3. Light is to be seen: There is no such thing as a secret Christian. We need to be a light at all times. Light shines not so much that people may see the light as that they may see other things because of the light. Our light shines not that people will be attracted to us but to the light Jesus Christ.

C. Light under a Bushel (Vs.15)
1. Palestinian homes were generally dark, having one small window. They did not have electricity and light bulbs like we have. Their light consisted of a lamp which was a bowl filled with oil that had a wick. When they needed light the lamp was placed on a lamp stand. The most difficult thing of having this light in the house was in lighting the lamp. Remember they didn’t have matches or cigarette lighters.
2. As a result, no one wanted to let their light go out because It took to much work to get the wick lid again. But when people went out of the house it was dangerous to leave the light on so for safety reasons when they left their homes the lamp would be taken from its lamp stand and placed under an earthen vessel where it could burn risk free. As soon as someone returned they would put the lamp on the stand.
3. No one lights a light only to put it under a basket or earthen vessel we are to let our light shine to the maximum.

D. You are the Light
story: There was a man whose job was to be on the railroad tracks and warn (with his light) the upcoming train of the bridge that had been damaged. One night as the train came the man showed his lamp but the train went right into the ditch. The man was taken to court because they wanted to know why the train did not pay attention to this man who was to warn the train of the danger ahead. The man was asked, “Where you on duty on the night that the train had the accident?” the judge asked. The man replied, “Yes sir.” The judge then asked, “Did you have your lamp with you?” The man replied, “Yes sir.” The judge asked the last question, “Did you wave your lamp to the train?” The man replied, “Yes sir.” So the man was not held responsible. Later, as the man went home, he told his friend, “I am glad that the judge did not ask me if my lamp was on.”

1. We are to dispel darkness. “Arise; shine; For your light has come! And the glory of the Lord is risen upon you. For behold darkness shall cover the earth, and deep darkness the people; but the Lord will arise over you, and His glory will be see upon you. The Gentiles shall come to your light, and kings to the brightness of your rising.” (Isa. 60:1-3)
2. The whole issue with the light is to be able to find light in the darkness. Jesus said, “you are the light of the world.” Every Christian is a light to help others find salvation. But you don’t have light of your own any more than the moon has light without the sun,
3. or a light bulb has light without being connected to a power source.
4. Jesus didn’t say, “you are the light of Palestine.” He said, “You are the light of the world.” We are to preach the gospel to the whole world. “
And I saw another angel fly in the midst of heaven, having the everlasting gospel to preach unto them that dwell on the earth, and to every nation, and kindred, and tongue, and people,” (Revelation 14:6)
5. What happens when a light fails to give its light? It is removed. “He who holds the seven stars in His right hand, who walks in the midst of the seven golden lamp stands…” Remember therefore from where you have fallen; repent and do the first works, or else I will come to you quickly and remove your lamp stands from its place unless you repent?” (Revelation 2:1,5)
6. We are the light; it is visible to the human eye. The people need to see the message.

III. FILLING THE EARTH WITH GOD’S GLORY
A. Differences between salt and light witnessing
1. It is crucial to understand the differences between these two. Salt works and expands itself silently but you see it operating. Things are delicious without ever seeing the salt.
2. You don’t have to give a Bible study to be salt. Your influence, your peace, your meekness, your mercy. It only takes one to get it going. God is saying just give me one salt and I will affect the lives of many. Just one. How many of you have gotten sick in the past two months? Why it all started with one.
3. On the other hand, light has a different type of effect. Light is visible it is seen. It works openly. This is when you openly share your faith with others, when you share about God.
4. People need to see the salt and light witness. They need to see how your acquaintance is a seasoning to your life, and to begin to ask the questions like- a.) why are you like this? b.)Tell me about your life. But also they need the light witness. They need to see Jesus in our lives; we need to share with them the true source of light. Remember we are just reflectors of the light. “For it is the God who commanded light to shine out of darkness, who has shone in our hearts to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ.” (2 Cor. 4:6)
5. Mirrors: Better yet we are like mirrors we reflect the light. But in order to reflect the light we need to position our mirrors to the light. And we do this by studying God’s word, by praying and by thinking. And as we position ourselves each day to Christ, the light will shine automatically. People will see the glory of God.
B. The Glory of God on this earth
1. The whole earth will be illuminated with God’s glory, and when that happens we know that we are near to the coming of the Lord.
2. We believe in the message of the three Angels of Revelation 14:1-20 . But there is a fourth angel.
3. “After these things I saw another angel coming down from heaven, having great authority; and the earth was illuminated with his glory.” (Revelation 18:1)

CONCLUSIONS
1. The time has come for us to be the salt of the earth.
2. The time has come for us to be the light of the world. To shine with the glory of God - his character. When people see the character of God in us, then the message will spread like wild fire.

You are the salt and the light of the world.

Obama Criminalizes Christianity

By Robert Moon – The Examiner
In a stunning attack on the speech rights and free religious exercise of U.S. soldiers, the Obama administration has released a statement confirming the unthinkable: Any soldier who professes Christianity can now be court-martialed and may face imprisonment and a dishonorable discharge from the military…even if they are a military chaplain.
The statement released to Fox News earlier today:
Religious proselytization is not permitted within the Department of Defense…Court martials and non-judicial punishments are decided on a case-by-case basis…
This statement follows a recent meeting between Pentagon officials and fanatical anti-Christian activist Mikey Weinstein, who helped design the new punishments for Christians who commit the now-criminal offense of sharing their faith with others.

Breitbart.com adds:
Weinstein is the head of the Military Religious Freedom Foundation, and says Christians–including chaplains–sharing the gospel of Jesus Christ in the military are guilty of ‘treason,’ and of committing an act of ‘spiritual rape’ as serious a crime as ‘sexual assault.’ He also asserted that Christians sharing their faith in the military are ‘enemies of the Constitution.’
Never mind the fact that the separation of church and stateis a myth that cannot be found anywhere in the Constitution (as I have explained before), or that it in no way violates anyone’s rights to have to witness or tolerate someone else exercising their faith…or that the only actual violation of the Constitution here is this tyrannical Atheist attack on the 1st Amendment. http://www.survivalandbeyond.net/obama-criminalizes-christianity-in-the-military/

edit - added the following:

**Update** Facing public outrage and the first open act of defiance by a high-ranking military leader over this, the Obama administration has done a complete 180 and now denies that any of it ever happened, despite multiple, separate confirmations from the Department of Defense that it did.
Suddenly, they are insisting that, contrary to all known definitions of the word, "proselytize," all they had ever actually attempted to criminalize by making proselytizing a court-martial offense was coercion and abuses of power to force religion on others.
This is an interesting twist, especially considering that military chaplains operate outside the chain-of-command and have zero authority over soldiers..and that it is already illegal for those within the chain-of-command to discriminate or to force religion on anyone.
And for the record, there is no known reference material anywhere that defines proselytizing as anything more than to convert or attempt to convert. Coercive force has never been mentioned or even implied in any dictionary or by anyone in office until just now.
The bottom line: The Obama administration was caught trying to illegally shove a radical Atheist agenda down the throats of Christian soldiers, and the public backlash too politically costly for them to continue pursuing it. So now, it never happened.

Hollywood kills Tea Partiers, Christians in movie 'God Bless America'

  * movie called "God Bless America" takes aim - literally - at Christians, conservatives and Tea Party activists.

According to the film's description:
Frank (Joel Murray) has had enough of the downward spiral of American culture, which he sees as overrun with cruelty, stupidity and intolerance. Divorced, recently fired, and possibly terminally ill, Frank truly has nothing left to live for. But instead of taking his own life, he buys a gun and decides to take out his frustration on the cruelest, stupidest, most intolerant people he can imagine—starting with some particularly odious reality television stars. Frank finds an unusual accomplice in a high-school student named Roxy (Tara Lynne Barr), who shares his sense of rage and disenfranchisement, and together they embark on a nation-wide assault on our country’s dumbest, most irritating celebrities.
Written and directed by taboo-busting filmmaker and comedian Bobcat Goldthwait (Shakes the Clown, Sleeping Dogs Lie, World's Greatest Dad), GOD BLESS AMERICA a truly dark and very funny comedy for anyone who’s had enough of the dumbing down of our society.

"Taking out the trash, one jerk at a time," reads the tag line at magnetreleasing.com. Got that? According to Hollywood, Christians and conservatives are "trash" that must be "taken out." A dark comedy, indeed - because it seems that murdering conservatives apparently is what's considered funny in Hollywood these days. Jim Hoft of the Gateway Pundit posted a letter he received from someone who watched the movie, and left thoroughly disgusted:
I had the misfortune experience of seeing this piece of crud movie ‘God Bless America’ at SXSW recently. This movie is horrible! It is nothing more than leftist propaganda murder porn! The heroes in this movie kill a character clearly based on Bill OReilly. Then they shoot Tea Party members and kill members from the Westboro Baptist Church. Can you imagine the out cry from the leftist socialist media if it were Bill Maher or Wanda Sykes being killed in this movie? Would the crowd be cheering if it was a group of OWS members being shot down and killed instead of Tea Party Members? Or what if it was a radical Muslim group being ran over and killed instead of a group of Christians? Of course we would never see that movie come out of Hollywood. Because Hollywood hates the USA! I have seen nothing but positive reviews for this piece of s*** movie and not one calling it out for what it is. Pure hate from the left. Just another example of Hollyweird’s disgusting double standards. Hopefully you or someone else with some real stones will do something about this disgusting piece of hate.
Newsbusters' Paul Wilson wrote of the movie:
...the movie’s title takes a gratuitous shot at the Christian God, by implying that God has “blessed” America with fools and idiots that need to be eliminated, and at those who revere America’s Judeo-Christian heritage. Goldthwait also depicts Christians in the usual Hollywood manner – by equating them all with the members of the extremist Westboro Baptist Church. If a director were to make a movie titled “Allah Bless Saudi Arabia,” and had his protagonist indiscriminately shoot hatemongering imams, teenaged girls and people in movie theaters, he would be instantly blacklisted in Hollywood as a hateful bigot. But attacks on Christians garner only praise from the artistic community.
An article at the Hollywood Reporter says the two characters "...use handguns to mow down anyone who crosses them, including double-parkers, spoiled teenagers and cellphone users who refuse to turn off their phones during a movie." The article makes no mention of conservatives, Christians or Tea Party activists. The movie is not the first production to target conservatives in such a manner. A play called The Last Supper, adapted from a 1995 movie by Dan Rosen, was all about killing conservatives. It, too, was billed as a dark comedy, and was performed in Wisconsin just two weeks after the tragic Tucson shooting that left former Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords fighting for her life. No one should be surprised that such a movie would be made in Hollywood. In his book, Primetime Propaganda: The True Hollywood Story of How the Left Took Over Your TV, Ben Shapiro shows the hatred that Hollywood liberals have for anyone to the right of Joseph Stalin. So, it's only natural that an industry that hates conservatives and openly discriminates against them would produce a movie that sees "comedy" in their murder. One has to ask: Why would counservatives - or anyone with a conscience - spend their hard-earned money to support such an industry?
